5 Uncommon Coaching Strategies to Improve Your Client's Productivity

Various sources claim that the average adult makes around 30,000 decisions per day, with 90 % of them happening in a subconscious way. It’s no surprise that productivity can be a challenge. As a coach, having a diverse set of strategies is key to helping clients improve their productivity - so they can improve their work and life.

Here are five unconventional coaching techniques to improve your client’s productivity.

1. Zero Tasks Lists

One of the uncommon coaching strategies to improve a client’s productivity is a concept called Zero Tasks or being, not doing. It means doing nothing.

As Nancy Christie states in her blog post:
''Not rushing to get to wherever it is you think you have to go but stopping still and just being where you are. Right now, right here.

It means taking the time to look around and see the real world, not the world that you wish it was or the world that you want it to be, but the world that exists today. And yes, there may be elements about it you don’t like or wish you could change but for just 60 minutes, see the world and your place in it.''

There’s also a similar concept or, Zero Tasking Day. It’s celebrated annually on the first Sunday of November. The idea behind it is to embrace the extra hour gained when clocks are set back at the end of daylight saving time. This concept focuses on activities that promote mental health and well-being, encouraging individuals to take a break, similar to the idea of "zero tasks" but with a focus on activities

2. Follow-up between sessions 

Coaching sessions are typically scheduled on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. However, as a coach, you can also offer support to your clients in between these sessions.

Check-in with them via email or text to see how they are doing and offer any additional advice or resources. This shows your clients that you are invested in their progress and reinforces the accountability aspect of coaching. It also allows for any issues or challenges to be addressed in a timely manner, rather than waiting until the next scheduled session.

3. Inspire clients to find their ‘’tribe’’

As a coach, it’s important to encourage your clients to surround themselves with like-minded individuals who can support and uplift them on their path. This can be done through joining local groups or online communities related to their personal or professional goals.

Furthermore, you can also organize group coaching sessions or workshops for your clients where they can connect with others who are also working towards similar goals. The power of community and support should not be underestimated in helping individuals stay motivated and focused on their goals.

4. Inspire them to have a creative space 

As a coach, you can also encourage your clients to create a space that inspires creativity and productivity. This could be a designated area in their home or workspace free from distractions and clutter. Suggest incorporating natural light, plants, and personal touches that align with their interests or goals. If the client doesn't have one, you can inspire them to create it. It doesn't have to be a room. It could be a corner or a small space so that it can remind them to be productive. As called a ''thinking room,'' your space should bring you joy and a purpose.

A creative space can be a physical reminder for clients to focus on their work and expand their creativity.  It can also be a place for them to reflect and gain clarity during challenging times.

5.  Visualization and other creative strategies 

Many people are visual learners, meaning they absorb information better through images and other visual methods than words. As a coach, you can incorporate visualization and other creative strategies to improve your client’s productivity.

For example, you could use mind maps to help clients brainstorm ideas or create a vision board to help them visualize their goals. These visual aids can be powerful tools to help clients stay focused and motivated toward their goals.

A TD Bank survey found that one in five entrepreneurs use vision boards, and above 70% of them reported that success aligned with their vision boards. You can inspire your client by sharing different methods of creating mind maps or visual boards and explaining the benefits of it. One of them is having a Pinterest board!
